If you have a ductless wall split air conditioning unit, you should be cleaning the filters at least once every 3 months if not more often. Below is a step by step guide on how to clean you wall split's (ductless unit's) filters.
Your ductless reverse cycle unit can be cleaned and maintained undoubtedly by the homeowner. Firstly make sure the power to the unit is switched off. Open the lid using two hands by pulling the front panel towards you. It should pivot from the top. Be diplomatic and don't force the flap as you could break it.

Lift the face up gradually and gradually using both hands. The panel should lock in to place when it gets to the top of the pivot point. If not have man hold the lid open for you.
The filters will be settled just underneath where the front cover was. They are shown here as white mesh that looks like a fly screen material. Remove the filters in two actions. Firstly push them up slightly to push the base over the clip. Then pull the filters down and out of your air conditioner.
Once the filters are out there are two ways to clean them. You can whether vacuum them or wash them in warm soapy water. Warm soapy water works best as it does a more suitable cleaning job. Be diplomatic with the filters and gawk for any wear and tear. If the filters look damaged, speak to the constructor to organise transfer filters.
Once clean, leave the filters in a dry place inside your home to dry. Do not place to dry in the sun as they may warp and you will not be able to get the filters back into the air conditioning unit.
Wait until the filters are thoroughly dry before inserting them back into the ductless/wall split air conditioning unit. Give the exterior of the air conditioning unit a quick wipe down with a moist (not wet) cloth to Remove any dust. Once this is done, replace the front panel, turn the power on and you are ready again to use your ductless/wall split unit.
